As 2019 approached, I performed an annual social media tradition: purge a bunch of irrelevant follows and find a bunch of new amazing artists to follow.

As social media is by nature distracting, I try to at least fill my feeds with the work of talented artists whose work makes me smile, or feel, or think, or want to create. This year look for monthly posts on Nerd Speaker where I’ll share a handful of artists to follow. If you like their work, be sure to follow them and offer your love and support!

Let’s begin! Here are 8 artists you should definitely follow on social media:

Yoshi Yoshitani

Instagram: @yoshiyoshitani
Twitter: @yoshisquared
Website: http://www.yoshiyoshitani.com/

I love Yoshi Yoshitani’s scope, navigating easily between incredibly elegant interpretations of pop-culture characters and original illustrations steeped in folklore and myth. Her drawings in black and gold on white paper are particularly striking (I hope to commission her one day), and her tarot card series and current Foxy Fashion series are a treat.

Nuri Durr

The king of copic markers, Nuri’s drawings are a mood unto themselves. He illustrates a lot of portraits of characters from games, TV, anime, and anywhere else that strikes his fancy. They are always a treat. Recently he completed a Smash Bros. series, and before that he did the entirety of class 1A from My Hero Academia!

Choo is a recent discovery for me, and her illustrations ooze style and attitude. Every piece of hers manages to tell a story in the subjects’ body language and background elements she so masterfully colours to suit a mood. Her pieces gives me life.

Jason McLean

Website: https://jasonmclean.myportfolio.com/

Jason McLean’s images blend a cartoony aesthetic with a sharpness that works incredibly well together. His caricatures of pop culture figures manage to accentuate their most prominent traits, and the amount of fun he has with each piece is evident just by looking at them.

Alli White

Instagram: @skirtzzz_art
Twitter: @skirtzzz
Website: http://skirtzzz.com/

I discovered Alli White through her work on the Game Grumps Anniversary Zine, her work is incredibly dreamy. She draws a lot of gorgeous ladies, clearly inspired by the Disney princesses and video game heroines she so often chooses to draw. Be sure to scroll through the Nintendo princess series images in the post below!

Hilda Palafox

Instagram: @poni
Twitter: @poni_oh
Website: https://cargocollective.com/hildapalafox

Hilda Palafox illustrates women in elegant shapes, making them part of landscapes where their full majesty can be appreciated. The simple elegance of her design with stark colours and curves is a treat for the eye.

Ori Toor

Instagram: @oritoor
Website: https://society6.com/oritoor

Instagram doesn’t do Ori Toor’s art justice, each piece is so full of small and surprising elements that you need to zoom in and take in each piece separately while also appreciating the overall composition. The pieces are geometric and whimsical, and Toor himself says he doesn’t plan ahead for his pieces, choosing to let the moment dictate his next steps.

Nathalie Fourdraine

Twitter: @loopyyylupe
Website: https://nathaliefourdraine.crevado.com/

I saved Nathalie for last as I discovered her right before the new year. She does concept work for games and comics, and her pastel style is calming and cheerful. If you’ve played Super Mario RPG, I highly suggest you download her PDF of sequential Super Mario RPG illustrations from the post below – it’s a real treat!

I hope you appreciate these artists as much as I do! Look out for more next month, and be sure to share some of your favorite artists on social media with me in the comments.
